Penny Pincher Coins was started in 2007 as an online and wholesale full service coin and currency dealer. We are committed to delivering the highest quality multi-channel shopping experience for novice and intermediate collectors who are looking for affordable, attractive pieces to add to their collections. As a result, we travel the country 20-30 weeks a year maintaining a presence on top bourses and at key auctions.

In June 2011, we opened our first retail location in historic downtown Fairfax, VA, just yards from The Skirmish at Fairfax, the first land engagement of the War of Northern Aggression (Civil War). In December of 2013 we moved up to the a much larger 11,000 sq. ft. shop on the same block (10409-A). In addition to our focus on numismatics, the business has grown to include estate liquidations, art, antiques, and jewelry. We are continually looking for collections and hoardes to purchase for our customers.

The principal, Mr. Shea, began his career as a derivatives trader in New York focusing on gold, silver, and world currency market prices after graduating from M.I.T. After several years trading over-the-counter derivatives and forward contracts on these commodities, Mr. Shea moved to Northern Virginia in 1999. Mr. Shea is a full time coin dealer, a PCGS Authorized dealer and a member of the American Numismatic Association.
