Flora is one of the most popular themes for collectors, because of the many possible differences in design, and the inherent beauty of nature. In part due to the popularity of the theme, a large number of floral themed stamps are issued every year by postal authorities world wide. Often, countries portray flowers, plants, or scenaries, which are tied to the country, either through tradition or symbolism. Certain flowers are preferred, depending on the country, as the different countries tend to favor flora which is indigenous to the country. France for example often depict lilies and roses on stamps, as seen below. 
Another favored theme for collectors, is People on Stamps. In the early days of stamp issuance, the stamps were most often a portrait of the monarch or national ruler of the country. Since then, the theme has caught on, and in addition to presidents and monarchs, stamps now feature celebrities from different backgrounds, such as sports, television, science, and many other.
